Deeply rooted in Ethiopian culture, Yegna is a multi-platform authentic brand created to inspire behavioral change in and towards Ethiopian girls. Comprised of five teenage female band members, the project seeks to address different social issues affecting young Ethiopian girls across the country.

Deeply rooted in Ethiopian culture, Yegna is a multi-platform authentic brand created to inspire (fundamental)behavioral change in Ethiopian girls. Ensuring the project appealed to its target group required extensive research into creating a unique identity that can relate to and inspire the young female population of Ethiopia. Resolution Studios played a significant role in the branding process starting from the research phase of the project.

Yegna was a collaborative effort incorporating a multitude of creative designers and artists. The work should be considered as a collective whole, the final result of multiple rounds of iterations involving various different people, where the total effect of the work is greater than the sum of its individual parts. We are grateful enough to take part in delivering this creative output.

Waves

Waves

Yegna is a very cultural product. Resolution Studio wanted to showcase this without relying on the typical patterns and imagery that are pervasive throughout depictions of Ethiopia. The compromise Resolution Studio reached was to use waves of color to represent the multi-faceted nature of Ethiopian culture.

Textures

Yegna is a girl band that very purposely has five very different personalities. To showcase this Resolution Studio created a different texture to differentiate between band members and give each girl a unique identity associated with that texture.

Each of the five Yegna girls is associated with a color and a graphic texture/pattern. Those are researches that led us to
define the final and “official” color-texures.combinations

Online

The textured waves were adapted and incorporated into Yegna’s online presence flowing through the entire ecosystem of their digital persona.

Yegna has an active online presence. Many pictures and interface elements were designed,
playing along with, and progressively developing Yegna visual guideline.
The original design of the online “Yegna Player”, in collaboration with the developers from Harkable (London).

Billboards

The billboards were designed to showcase locations, activities and personalities that people are familiar with, carry out and relate to respectively in their day to day lives. This approach was meant to appeal to each and every member of the public and garner the right attention.

At this stage, the elements of the brand had been created. The slogan ‘xxx’ means all our voices’ and the billboards were created to advertise Yegna’s talk show. Yegna’s value proposition is to represent everyday life and showcase the various situations that the female population of Ethiopia encounter on a day to day basis. As a result, images of day to day life were used. Furthermore, the foundation of Yegna is that Ethiopian women of today can be many different things at once; the waves that intersect throughout the billboard represent this.
